Why is air-to-air heat exchangers an ideal solution for cooling an enclosure. Under optimum conditions, the air outside the cabinet is cooler than the inside, so the use of external for cooling the electrical cabinet is the cheapest and most efficient way.
Dust, liquids and gases: why prefer an air-to-air heat exchanger
When external air is contaminated by dust, liquids, gases or pollutants, however, it’s imperative that it does not come into contact with the interior components of the enclosure. In fact, dust and chemical agents are among the main enemies for the proper operation of electronic devices, and despite the excellent degree of filtration guaranteed by a fan filter, it’s recommended to use an air-to-air exchanger to prevent any accidental contact.
Air-to-air heat exchangers as a solution
Air-to-air heat exchangers are the ideal solution in this case. The integrated heat exchanger is designed for closed loop cooling of a sealed enclosure and allows a distinct separation between the internal and external airflow. The interior of the electrical cabinet never comes into contact with the outside environment and harmful dust and liquids can not cause damage to the built-in components. Air-to-air heat exchangers are therefore a good alternative to fan filters.
Fandis Bordos KEA Series air-to-air heat exchangers
In addition to being a perfect alternative to fan filters, an added value of Fandis Bordos KEA Series heat exchangers is due to its robust design and IP54-rated degree of protection that allows them to be used in difficult industrial conditions. In addition, we dramatically reduced assembly times and maintenance, thus requiring a lesser commitment to our customers.
Low power consumption
An interesting feature of Fandis Bordos KEA Series air-to-air heat exchangers is the low power consumption. The only current absorption is due to the two working fans.
The enclosure internal temperature is higher than the external temperature
Obviously, air-to-air heat exchangers find their ideal application when the temperature inside the cabinet is not lower than the room temperature: an air-to-air heat exchanger acts by transferring heat from inside to the outside, only if the temperature difference between the electrical cabinet and the air temperature allows it. The variation obtained then depends on the heat load and the exchanger’s capacity.
The enclosure external temperature is higher than or equal to the internal temperature
Before selecting an air-to-air heat exchanger, it’s necessary to establish the maximum allowable temperature to guarantee the operation of all devices installed inside the cabinet, considering the different limitations, so to choose a slightly lower temperature that provides a reasonable safety margin. To do so, always keep in mind the highest measurement of the outside temperature. If the result is that the outside temperature of the panel is not enough to cool the interior, it’s recommended to use an active system such as the KCU Series conditioner or a KEW Series air-to-water heat exchanger, in the same range.
